Following yesterdays results day for our class of 2021 alumni, we are celebrating some fantastic achievements by our scholars across our national football education programme. One of our star performers Oliver Groombridge has secured a perfect Distinction* grade in his Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport & Exercise Science. A role model student over his two years with the Football Industry College, Olly delivered an exceptional standard of work for his diploma, while on the pitch he has made the right back position his own and proven to be one of the most consistent, reliable performers and team player.
Olly’s fantastic distinction* grade means he will now continue onto Higher Education studying for a Degree in Physical Education and School Sport at Hallam University, Sheffield.
His professionalism, commitment and dedication has also seen himself stand out to staff at St Georges, Park Graves Football hub where we run our Sheffield programme to which he has secured a paid role.
We recently caught up with Olly to reflect on his time at the Football Industry College and his exciting next steps. We also received a lovely thank you message from his parent.
I would just like to say a few words about Oliver’s time at The Football industry College at Graves, Sheffield, and in particular Rich Clarke.CLARE GROOMBRIDGE – OLLY’S PARENT
Both Oliver and I were apprehensive about Oliver going into further education following 5 years of treatment for a medical condition which affected his whole time at secondary school. Olly was fortunate that his school were very supportive and understanding and helped him enormously with his education and I wasn’t sure that he would get this level of understanding or support In Further education. On meeting Rich for the first time he immediately put my mind at rest, encouraging Oliver and reassuring him that they would support him through any further treatment and it would definitely not be an obstacle to him joining, participating or completing the course.
Luckily, Oliver has not needed any further treatment but the support and encouragement has been there throughout his time regardless. Oliver has gained so much confidence whilst he has been on the course and I know that a lot of this comes from the encouragement and belief shown in him by Rich, Jake and Jade. He has always found them all helpful and approachable whenever he has needed a little extra help with something. Similarly, whenever I have had any concerns or questions, Rich has always responded, quickly and professionally and nothing was ever too much trouble.
All of this has contributed to Oliver achieving far more than he originally thought he would as well as having two years that he has thoroughly enjoyed.
