Despite the disruption of higher education due to national lockdowns, 2019 Lowestoft graduates Cion and Ciera have gained exciting professional football industry experience through work placements in their chosen field with Ipswich Town Football Club.
The work placements are all part of their higher education pathways with the University of Suffolk of which they have progressed onto having completed their Level 3 Extended Diplomas in Sport and Exercise Science through our post 16 football education programme.
cion wren – SPORTS & EXERCISE SCIENCE DEGREE
Having graduated from the Lowestoft Programme and progressing onto higher education, Cion has now completed the second year of his BSC (Hons) Sport & Exercise Science Degree at the University of Suffolk. His second year study programme saw him secure a work placement at his beloved Ipswich Town Football Club within the sports science department. This fantastic placement has enabled Cion to gain valuable experience within a professional sport environment, including pre-match preparations with the first team squad at Portman Road monitoring and leading session on the pitch.
ciera flatt – SPORTS PERFORMANCE ANALYSIS DEGREE
Like Cion, Ciera has also progressed onto the University of Suffolk following the completion of her diploma with us, and is currently studying towards a BSC (Hons) in Sports Performance Analysis. As part of her second year work placement, Ciera has been gaining experience working alongside the Performance Analysis Team within the Academy set up at Ipswich.
A life long Town fan, Ciera has previously represented the successful Ipswich Town F.C Women’s first team, while also undertaking coaching badges, delivering grassroots coaching sessions for young girls as part of the Jamie Godbold Football Academy.
It’s great to follow the journeys of the scholars who graduate from our post 16 football education programmes across the various pathways on offer. Cion and Ciera’s attitudes to everything they did while with on our programme was first class, and it is great to see them pushing themselves onto the next level, taking advantage of an amazing opportunity with their degree and gain valuable experience within a professional football environment. With both Ciera and Cion being avid Ipswich Town supporters, we know what being associated with the club means to them both and I am sure they will have given everything and taken a lot more from the opportunity. We cannot wait to see what the future holds for them both.Andy Reynolds – Assistant Director – Football Industry College
