The Player Development – Term Review – May 2022

by May 14, 2022

From top of the league leaders to highest place league finishes our national scholars have continued to deliver on the pitch alongside their academic studies as we reach the conclusion of the football season.

With a single game remaining our LU Graves Sheffield Performance Scholars need a single point that would end an impressive season as South Yorkshire & Hallam FA College Flexi League Champions.

The scholars will visit fourth placed Derby County Community Trust on Wednesday 25th May for their final game of the season as they look to claim the title.

It has also been a hugely successful season for the Sheffield development scholars who have secured a second place finish in their league with a single game remaining ahead of the likes of Sheffield Wednesday Community A team.

It has been a really positive season for both squads here in Sheffield. The development squad have been great this year and their application to training and team bond really has seen them develop individually and as a team which has merited their climb up the table. Their second place finish is truly deserved. The performance scholars have been really consistent this year and with one game remaining we have it in our own hands to clinch the title, which would cap off a great year for both squads here in Sheffield.

Meanwhile our Lowestoft and Norwich scholars have also had promising seasons across both the U19 National Alliance League and AOC College Sport Leagues.

In the U19 National Alliance League the Lowestoft and Norwich Performance squad scholars have represented Lowestoft Town F.C in what is a really competitive competition. With game postponements for various reasons by other teams it was unfortunate the scholars could not complete all their fixtures before the end of April which saw them finish seventh in the league with four games in hand over some teams.

Based on current form and teams left to play, the performance scholars would have been quite capable of finishing in the top three in the league which would have been a fantastic achievement in what is very high standard of U19 football.

At the time of writing this post the Norwich and Lowestoft development squads league table was unavailable on the AOC Sport website but mid-table finishes has been a positive season for both teams.

It has been a really positive season on the pitch for our Lowestoft and Norwich scholars this season. Both performance and development squads have been fantastic in training, and have been a pleasure to coach. The level of development has really been evident on matchdays and their has been some great achievements with performance squad scholars being recognised at senior level representing Lowestoft Town F.C first team on a regular basis. This is not only a fantastic achievement but great experience for lads sixteen or seventeen years of age as they look to push up the pyramid of the game.
