With the return of face-to-face learning it has been a great first full term back for our national scholars, gathering practical evidence across a range of units for their Level 3 Extended Diplomas in Sports & Exercise Science.
Having spent the majority of remote learning looking at the theory and preparing their practical assignments, it has been great to see the work ethic, commitment and support for their peers as scholars jumped into numerous practical assignments, delivering units of work to a very high standard.
Below are just some of the examples of the practical assessments that our scholars have undertaken
FITNESS TESTING practical
Having completed the research and theory behind within the fitness testing unit of their diplomas, scholars participated and delivered a practical assessment that included measuring BMI, blood pressure, strength, agility, muscular and cardiovascular endurance.
To measure the above scholars planned a session that included the use of skinfold callipers, blood pressure monitors, hand grip tester, twelve minute cooper run, one minute sit up and press up drills and illinois agility test.
sPORTS COACHING PRACTICAL
Our level three scholars have also worked towards gathering evidence to complete the sports coaching unit of their diploma qualification. Having planned their sessions during lockdown it was time to delver them to their peers.
The sessions to included an appropriate warm up and cool down with the main skill based drills inbetween. Scholars demonstrated each element of their session, providing advice and support to their peers.
instructing physical activity PRACTICAL
the opportunity for our Lowestoft scholars to get back in the gym saw them gain the evidence required to complete their instructing physical activity unit of their diploma.
Scholars participated in a fitness session led by tutor Gav (see above) and then from their own learning developed sessions that they then delivered to their peers. It was great to see a different range of sessions delivered from our scholars with a great depth of knowledge on how to do each exercise efficiently. This also include a fantastic yoga session by student of the term winner Kav!
applied strength & conditioning PRACTICAL
Following online delivery from our tutor Rob it was time for the Norwich scholars to put into practice what they have learnt by delivering strength and conditioning sessions. This involved delivering the importance of a warm up and cool down, along with explaining and demonstrating the benefits of the main strength and conditioning session.
